Hamnet is a 2026 historical drama film directed by Chloé Zhao based on the 2020 novel by MaggieO’Farrell. The film dramatises the family life of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes Hathaway as they cope with the death of their 11-year-old son Hamnet.

Hamnet, is being about how Shakespeare wrote Hamlet after his young son, Hamnet, died. While technically accurate, that misses the exact mechanics of this immersive account of the desire, grief, love and anger that course between a woman and her playwright husband, that culminates in a remarkable demonstration of what art can do.
